2 • • <br />Correspond- The Mayor presented a Setter from the State Highway Dept. requesting <br />ence a map of LaPorte showing the City Iimi;~s. The City Secretary was <br />instructed to forward such map to the Department ~f one could be located. <br />Motion by Boyle, second by Benson, that the City Secretary be instructed <br />to send the requested information on Building Permits to the li.5. Dept. <br />of Labor,Buresa of Statistics at ~Jashington. Carried <br />The .Mayor presented a letter from Chas. R. Haile which the Secretary <br />was instructed to gnlace on files also letters from. Garrett Engineering <br />Co• and the American City were to be placed on fiI©• <br />Affidavit The City Seeretary reported that an affidavit had been received fra~m <br />Fred Hartman on the advertising fti'r the bids on the painting of the <br />Water Tower and Tank and on the building of the garage and tool house. <br />This was ordered placed on file. <br />Int.onBonds The Seoretary reported the payment of the Interest Coupond on Re- <br />funding Bo~dds dae Oot.lOth and payment of Norris Bros. Warrant as <br />ordered at October ~.th Special meeting. <br />Lotion by Roark, second by Benson, that the foll~ing resolution be <br />adopted; <br />State of Texas <br />County of Harris <br />Costs WHEREAS, J.W. Mills, Clerk of the District Courts of Harris ~~ <br />De1q.Tax County, Texas, has demanded security for the costs in delinquent tax suits <br />Suits heretofore filed and hereafter to be filed by thecCity of La Porte,Texa.s; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on the 12th day of October, A.D. 1937, at a regular <br />meeting of the City Couheil of the said City of La Porte, upon motion <br />made by J.J. Roark, Alderman, seconded by P.L. Benson,Alderman, and duly <br />parried by a majority of the votes of the Aldermen present, the follow- <br />. iag resolution was adopted: <br />" Be it resolved that the City of LaPorte, Texan hereby ex- <br />pressly guarantees the payment of all posts acc~ued and hereafter to <br />accrue in all delinquent tax suits filed and hereafter to be filed by <br />said City, upon the final disposition thereof." <br />Carried <br />Streetman The ~:ayor presented a letter from W.11~. Streetarian, Iiogston Attorney, <br />letter regarding the suit of Gayle Bros. Vs the City of LaPorte, also a <br />letter ft-om the Attorneys representing Gayle Bros• The Council agreed <br />to arrange a meeting with Mr Streetman on the matter. <br />Bids,labor Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the bids for Labor on the garage <br />garage and tool house be opened. Carried. <br />The bids were opened with the following results: ' <br />Ted. Cowley: To build garage as shrnvn on plan, including foundation,but <br />no painting or plumbing, for the sum of X180.00 <br />H.~. Whatley: Labor contract on City garage, complete, X256.00 <br />Motion by Ruff, second by Benson, that the Contract on Labor for the <br />building of the Cityy ggarage and tool house be awarded to Ted.Cowley <br />on his lour bid of ~180.~0 Carried. <br />see pg 3 <br />
