~ ~ ~ <br />MINUTES - SPECIAL ~~EETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION - SEPTF11gBER 24, 1947. <br />7:30 P. M. <br />Special meeting of the City Commission was called to order by <br />Mayor Pfeiffer with the following members and officials pre- <br />sent: Commissioners Jas. S, Crate, Jr., Jas. E. Stewart, City <br />Attorney Jno. S. Kiibler and City Clerk J. E. Muld©on. <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pfeiffer for the pur- <br />pose of discussing the tax values and tax rate of the City for <br />1947 with a committee from the Citizens' Protective Association. <br />The committee, with Geo. L~. Sharp, Sr. as Chairman, was composed <br />of the following members: Gordon Ellis, Everett. du Puy, Nelson <br />Johnson and W. J. Rhymes. George Sharp stated that, at a meet- <br />ing of the Citizens' Protective Association, a resolution was <br />adopted requesting that the tax rate be fixed at X1.50 per X100.00 <br />value with a 40~ increase over the 1946 assessed values and that <br />new improvements be assessed at 1946 levels and increased 40~. <br />Mayor Pfeiffer informed the committee that the City will take <br />the recommendation: under advisement to see if 'it would produce <br />sufficient money to operate the City during the current fiscal <br />year but that the City would equalize the assessed. values. Geo. <br />Sharp said that equalization was not mentioned in the Association's <br />resolution but that it was the consensus of opinion that the <br />values should be equalized. Mayor Pfeiffer stated that the City <br />Commission would consider the matter and contact the committee <br />later. <br />Motion by Crate, second by Stewart that the meeting adjourn. <br />Carried. <br />~\ ~ ~ ~ ~ <br />E.
