129 <br />MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COMMISSIC~Id -March g, 1948 <br />10:00 A. M. <br />Spaoial meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor <br />Pfeiffer, with the following members and City officials present : Com- <br />missioners Jas. S. Crate, Jr. and James E. Stewart, Supt. of Publio <br />Worlaa Raleigh Erwin, A. H. Lambert, Editor and owner of the la Porte <br />Reporter, John T. Mo Afee, representing i~ratt C. Hedriok, City Engin- <br />eer, John S. Kiibler, City Attorney, and J. E. Muldoon, City Clerk. <br />Mr. Herman. and Mr. Peabody appeared before the Commission and requested <br />an estimate of the cost of a water line from the City's mains to Outlot <br />5, Nebraska Syndioate. Their request was referred to Wyatt C. Hedriok, <br />City Engineer. <br />Mr. Neal Moore and Mr. Bryan Moore appeared before the Cosnnission in <br />eonneotian with the oost of water and sewer mains in Block No. 227. <br />1'he Commission authorized the Mayor to deal with the Houston Lighting <br />and Power Co., and make whate4er ohanges in the street lights that sae <br />neoessary to oonforai with Light Company's agreement. <br />Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to transfer Allen B. Hannay,etux, <br />interest in that pertain water line agreement between the City of La- <br />Porte and others, dated August 10th, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis <br />Clegg, as per written instrument executed by Allen B. Hannay and wife, <br />dated July 30, 1947, to James Ellis Clegg and wife. <br />Carried. <br />Motion by Crate, second by Stewart, to authorise the City Clerk to <br />discontinue water billings to the St. John's Episcopal Churoh, and to <br />refund to them amounts paid; same being the policy aeoorded other <br />churches in the City. <br />Carried. <br />Mgtion by Crate, seoond by Stewart, to authorize the City Clerk to <br />oanoel the 1947 taxes on property owned by the St. John's Episoopal <br />Church in Blook 272, a.s same is used exolusively for religious pur- <br />pos es . <br />Carried. <br />The Mayor requested the City Clerk t o notify all oandidates to be at the <br />City Eall at 7x00 o'clock P. ~1. for drawing of names to be placed on the <br />city ballot. <br />Motion by Stewart, second by 'Crate, that the meeting adjourn. <br />Carried. <br />A EST : ~ <br />~. <br />wJ~ ~ ~ f ' --- <br />u doon, e , ~"~ a r, e~ er, yor o e ty o <br />City of La Porte, Texas La Porte, Teas` <br />
