J. <br />Pfeifer,. with the following members ~d city officials prosent : Caa~missionsrs <br />1~m. .Jones and Jas. S. Crate, Jr., Supt. of` Publie V':orks Raleigh Err~•in, Yin.. <br />B~aness, representing Matt C. Eedrick, City Engineer, Carl C• Patrick, City <br />Attorney, and J. E. B~uldoon, City Clerk • <br />89~. R"_ilton Beck and rhr. Richard BRc Kinney appeared before the Commission and <br />requested a plumbing ordinance similar to one used in the City of Houstco~., so <br />that all local plumbing woulca be installed by 13.k~e code. <br />The Commission requested rQr. Beak an@ Mr. Brie Kinney to contact Brim. "Red" Perry, <br />City of Houston plumbing inspector, for copy of orditaance, and any other infor- <br />matidts, he could furnish for variting a plumbing ordinance for the City 'of 'La- <br />Porte • <br />B+~• Shaffer and Julian Hovey appeared before the Commission, and requested a <br />tax be collected on all itinerant merchants, photographers, cedar post pedd- <br />lers, etc. <br />This 'eoxrunittee was informed that the Courts have held that a city ,has no pourer <br />to tax an occupation until legislature has declared such occupation taxable, <br />and the occupations that they had mentioned were not taxed by the State, e'henee <br />there was little they could do until legislature taxed sucl°~ oaeu.patiozLS • <br />B~x. Irawson, representing The Layne-Texas Company, Ltd., appeared before the <br />Cosnnissian and agreed to sell the city a ddep well pump for No• 1 ti'Ve11, far <br />~ 198Zi..l~.0. <br />Motion by Jones, second by Crate, to purchase pump for No• 1 V~ell from The <br />Layne-Texas Co., Ltd., for $1981.1,.0. <br />Carri®d • <br />B~otion by Crate, second by Jones, to let The Layne-Texas Go., Ltd., install <br />the pump for ~ 175.00 • <br />Carried. <br />Motion by Janes, second by Crate, authorizing the City Clerk to issue a check, <br />No• 2581, it the amount of X2,000.00 to Ernest L. Broarn, Jr., in lieu of good <br />faith thank v+fi.ich was deposited with the City to be held uni~.1 Mr. Frown had <br />ccanplied. with the terms of .his bid for Street and Incinerator Bonds. <br />Carried. <br />~~ <br />
