J.D. Sanders <br />of Baytown, for a permit to operate a pool hall in La Porte. His intention <br />is to open ti~is business in the old Shannon building at 212 ;"hest Main. <br />nor. Kiibler stated than an open pool. hall was against the law, and that <br />this kind of business can only be operated lega7_ly as a club, with members. <br />He also stated that in his opinion, this kind of a place was a breeding <br />place for gambling. after discussion, it was unanimously agreed that ~,~r. <br />~ander~s application be denied. <br />The matter of two city employees having no operator's license, was brought <br />up, and discussed. :fir. Axthur was instructed to notify these two employees <br />that they would be given until the first of August to get their licenses, <br />and if they fail to do so by that time, they will have to be laid off, <br />and someone else hired in their places. <br />An old ordinance passed ir_ 1935, pertaining to license for coin operated <br />machines,. was brought up by Commissioner Lawler. It was brought out that <br />this ordinance has not been enforced for some time. ~Ir. Kiibler was in- <br />structed to look over this old ordinance to see what types of machines <br />it covered, and to report on same at the next meeting. It was agreed that <br />this ordinance should be enforced or repealed, and if it is repealed, that <br />a. new ordinance be passed z~rhich vrould fit our needs at the present time. <br />The matter of control of location of beer 3oints in La Porte, was brought <br />up by Commissioner Lawler. h2r. Kiibler was to have studied this problem <br />and r eported en same. Iie s+,ated that in his opinion this could be taken <br />mare of by zoning. l~ction on this was postponed until I44r. Kiibler can <br />get more material. <br />Zoning for La Porte was discussed, and the appointment of a Zoning Board <br />was brought up. The follaPri.ng names vrere turned in as being those persons <br />who have agreed to serve on that ~3oard: Jack Gresham,, Gordan Hyatt, Elvin <br />Purvis, R4rs. Bertha Cock, Jim Mayes, Fred Cary, Leo Gabex, Eugenia ~,.iller,t~.Lewis, <br />M. L. Fay i~ooley, ~"falter P~oberson, John Ha1l.mark and Jack Adams. Letters <br />will be sent to those persons requesting them to attend a special meeting <br />to get organized, ^~nd stari, ?~;ith the problem. of zoni.^.g La Porte. This <br />~, meeting vras set for Tuesday, July 29th, at the Council room in the old <br />City I:all. Letters are to be prepaxed by the City Clerk. <br />
