AND IT IS SO OI~.D.I~~.F9. Carried. -Commissioner Lawler presented a request (by letter) from ~;'Ir. J.D. Sanders of Baytown, for a permit to operate a pool hall in La Porte. His intention is to open ti~is business in the old Shannon building at 212 ;"hest Main. nor. Kiibler stated than an open pool. hall was against the law, and that this kind of business can only be operated lega7_ly as a club, with members. He also stated that in his opinion, this kind of a place was a breeding place for gambling. after discussion, it was unanimously agreed that ~,~r. ~ander~s application be denied. The matter of two city employees having no operator's license, was brought up, and discussed. :fir. Axthur was instructed to notify these two employees that they would be given until the first of August to get their licenses, and if they fail to do so by that time, they will have to be laid off, and someone else hired in their places. An old ordinance passed ir_ 1935, pertaining to license for coin operated machines,. was brought up by Commissioner Lawler. It was brought out that this ordinance has not been enforced for some time. ~Ir. Kiibler was in- structed to look over this old ordinance to see what types of machines it covered, and to report on same at the next meeting. It was agreed that this ordinance should be enforced or repealed, and if it is repealed, that a. new ordinance be passed z~rhich vrould fit our needs at the present time. The matter of control of location of beer 3oints in La Porte, was brought up by Commissioner Lawler. h2r. Kiibler was to have studied this problem and r eported en same. Iie s+,ated that in his opinion this could be taken mare of by zoning. l~ction on this was postponed until I44r. Kiibler can get more material. Zoning for La Porte was discussed, and the appointment of a Zoning Board was brought up. The follaPri.ng names vrere turned in as being those persons who have agreed to serve on that ~3oard: Jack Gresham,, Gordan Hyatt, Elvin Purvis, R4rs. Bertha Cock, Jim Mayes, Fred Cary, Leo Gabex, Eugenia ~,.iller,t~.Lewis, M. L. Fay i~ooley, ~"falter P~oberson, John Ha1l.mark and Jack Adams.
