A report was given and discussion held on delinquent <br />taxes. <br />Mr. Werner presented a report showing a total of <br />X85,865.60 in delinquent taxes for the years 1939 <br />thru 1970. He suggested that the City make every <br />effort to collect the taxes between February 1st and <br />July 1st and then engage a professional service, <br />such as Ad Valorem Records, to collect the delinquent <br />taxes on a continuing basis. <br />Motion by Comm. Burgin, seconded by Comm. Crofoot <br />to accept Mr. Werner's recommendation of the City <br />making a concerted effort to collect delinquent <br />taxes between February 1st and July 1st and that <br />Mr. Werner be authorized to contract with Ad Valorem <br />Records to collect the taxes on a continuing basis <br />beginning July 1, 1971. <br />Motion by Comm. Thomas, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux <br />to amend the pending question by striking out "that <br />Mr. Werner be authorized to contract with Ad Valorem <br />Records to collect the taxes on a continuing basis <br />beginning July 1, 1971." Motion to the amendment <br />carried by the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux and Crofoot. <br />NAYS: Commissioner Burgin. <br />The motion as amended carried by the following vote: <br />AYES:Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux and Crofoot. <br />NAYS: Commissioner Burgin. <br />+ + + <br />8. Discussion was held on opening Arizona Street from <br />"D" to "E" Streets. The Director of Public Works <br />was instructed to prepare a cost estimate. <br />+ + + <br />9. Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Thomas <br />to extend the length of time that water bills may <br />be paid before a penalty is charged, from 10 to 17 <br />days and that this procedure be given a trial period <br />of six months beginning March, 19?1. Motion carried <br />by the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux and Crofoot. <br />NAYS: Commissioner Burgin. <br /> <br />+ + + <br />
