<br />Regular Meeting 7/3/ 72 - continued <br />• <br />was published in the official newspaper of <br />the city on June 22, 1972. <br />Mayor Thomas asked if there was anyone opposed <br />to the rezoning that would like to speak. There <br />being none, he asked if there was anyone to <br />speak for the rezoning. <br />Mr. H. H. McDonald stated the area will be an <br />extension of the Bay Area Shopping Center, which <br />now exists on the west side of the block. <br />Mayor Thomas asked if there were any further <br />comments, and there being none, declared the <br />hearing closed. <br />Walter Roberson, Chairman of the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission presented their recommendation <br />to rezone the property. <br />Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. <br />Sampson to rezone lots 17 through 32, block <br />164, Town of La Porte, from Residential to <br />Commercial. Motion carried by the following <br />vote: <br />C~ <br />AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Kibodeaux, <br />Sampson and Boyle. <br />NAYS: None. <br />+ + + <br />4. Mr. James Spradling addressed the Commission <br />in regards to the O'Meara-Rush project being <br />low rent housing. Mr. Spradling stated he felt <br />the citizens of La Porte had been deceived and <br />had it been known that the project was going <br />to be low rent housing, it would not have been <br />rezoned. He stated he felt the local newspaper <br />knew that it was a low rent project and the <br />public was not being informed by the paper. <br />Mr. Spradling stated he felt there were some <br />good men on the Council and he believed there <br />would be some changes in the city. <br />+ + + <br /> <br />• 5.
