~ ~ • <br />Regular Meeting 6/17/74 - Continued <br />• <br />Motion by Commissioner Christensen and seconded by <br />Commissioner Price to allow Mr. Hutchison and Mr. Cline <br />to contact any number of roofers and get prices. <br />Motion carried by the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Christensen, Price, and Boyle. <br />NAYS: None. <br />ABSENT: Commissioner Kibodeaux. <br />+ + + <br />2. LADIES AUXILIARY FIRE TEAM - Mayor Thomas stated that <br />La Porte was the most fortunate City in the State <br />tonight. A group of ladies went to Laredo, Texas and <br />won first place in the State with their pumper team. <br />Mayor Thomas called on Mr. Joe Sease and Mr. Jack <br />Oliphant to give a brief resume on what happened. <br />Last year the ladies had won second, but this year <br />they had done better by winning first place. Every- <br />one was quite proud of this honor. <br />The Team Captain's husband, Mr. Jack Oliphant, introduced <br />the Ladies Pumper Team. Mrs. E. A. Thomas, Chaperon; <br />Mrs. Judi Liska, Andrew Liska, ex-Fire Marshal's wife; <br />Mrs. Bonnie Crager, Robert Crager, Assistant Chief's <br />wife; Mrs. Kitty Meek, Larry Meek, Assistant Chief of <br />the Western Department at Fairmont Park, wife and <br />Patricia Oliphant, his wife. Other members absent were <br />Mrs. Cecile Edwards, Mrs. Norene Booth and Mrs. Clara <br />Greer. Mrs. N. W. Neville was recognized as going as <br />another chaperon. <br />Trophies were presented. The Travel Trophy is a <br />rotating trophy which La Porte hopefully will receive <br />again next year. The Team received a Nozzle Trophy <br />and a large First Place Trophy which remains in La Porte. <br />A hand of applause was given to the Ladies Pumper Team. <br />Mrs. Patricia Oliphant thanked Mayor Thomas, the City <br />and the Commission for allowing the Ladies Pumper Team <br />to go and represent the City. They had moments of <br />seriousness, lots of fun, and made many new friends <br />from all over the state. They are looking forward to <br />going again. <br />• Mayfly Thomas again stated how proud the City was to have <br />the best Ladies Pumper Team in the State. <br />+ + + <br />
