GRODA - FENCE AND GATE ACROSS CITY EASEMENT - <br />Roy A. Groda, 923 Parkway, La Porte, was recognized <br />addressed the Commission regarding putting a fence <br />gate across city easements on his property on Parkway. <br />After a lengthy discussion, motion by Commissioner <br />Price, seconded by Commissioner Christensen to not <br />allow alleys and easements to be fenced. <br />(B) MRS. HAZEL DURST - DISCRIMINATION OF BLACKS IN THE <br />LABOR FORCE IN LA PORTE - Mrs. Hazel Durst, 777 Avenue R <br />No. 318, La Porte, was recognized and addressed the <br />Commission regarding discrimination of Blacks in the <br />Bayport area. <br />Mayor Thomas informed Mrs. Durst that the City Commission <br />had nothing to do with industry and could only control <br />practices involving the City of La Porte. <br />Mr. Phil Pfeiffer was recognized and informed Mrs. Durst <br />• that she could contact the Equal Employment Opportunity <br />Group, 2320 La Branch, Houston, Texas. <br />(C) MRS. MATTIE P. BRITTON - SOUTH SIDE COMMUNITY CITIZENS - <br />16TH STREET CONDITIONS - Mrs. Mattie P. Britton, 122 S. 16th, <br />La Porte, Texas, was recognized and addressed the Commission <br />regarding the condition of 16th Street and the need for <br />some type of topping and asked the Commissions consideration <br />regarding sanitary sewer. <br />Mrs. Britton was informed that the County was responsible <br />for 16th Street and hopefully something would be done in <br />the near future. <br />The Commission was of the consensus of opinion that the <br />next sewage project would provide sanitary sewer for the <br />16th Street area. <br />(D) MR. PHIL PFEIFFER, ATTORNEY - CHEMTRON REQUEST TO <br />VACATE CERTAIN STREETS AND ALLEYS - Mr. Phil Pfeiffer, <br />Attorney with Fulbright & Jaworski, Bank of the Southwest <br />Building, Houston, Texas 77002, was recognized and <br />addressed the Commission regarding the request of Chemtron <br />to close several alleys and a portion of 17th Street, <br />West "H" Street and West "G" Street, for a proposed 9.9 <br />• million dollar expansion. <br />
