The Hon. Mayor & City Commissioners Page 3
• City of La Porte 5-8-75
(3) A speed limit sign, probably a 15 or 20 m.p.h., but
a low enough speed to prevent injury to person and
property going over the speed bumper, should be
erected a sufficient distance preceding the speed
bumper;
(4) The speed bumper and the warning sign should be
illuminated at night;
(5) The height and width of the speed bumper should
be no greater than absolutely necesarry to
accomplish the purpose.
As to the speed limit below 30 m.p.h., recent amendment to Article
6701d, Section 166, et seq, allows a municipality to establish a
speed limit below 30 m.p.h., following an engineering and traffic
study of the individual street involved, resulting in a finding.
that the maximum safe speed is a speed below 30 m.p.h. A speed
limit ordinance based upon this study must then be passed, and
. the caption published.
If I may be of further assistance on this matter, please advise.
Yours very truly,
Gel/ .
Knox W.
