<br />C <br />Special Meeting 10/10/79 <br />2 <br />2. CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION OF CHARTER REVISION COMMITTEE ON THE <br />PROPOSED BOUNDARY LINES FOR DISTRICTS FOR ELECTION OF COUNCIL- <br />PERSONS UNDER THE PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE - Mayor Meza read the recommendation <br />from the Chairman of the Charter Revision Committee, Mr. H. P. <br />Pfeiffer, stating that the Committee had voted six to one to <br />reject the six single member district plan and stay with the <br />four single member and two at large plan. The reason for the <br />committee's preference of the four-two plan is that each citizen <br />may vote for a total of four persons in lieu of being able to <br />vote far only two persons in the rejected plan. Further, stating <br />that one of the members, Gracie Gonzales, was advised by the <br />League of United .Latin American Citizens that they felt the <br />proposed four-two plan was acceptable. A copy of the recommenda- <br />tion is attached and made a part of these minutes. <br />Motion by Commissioner Tomerlin, seconded by Commissioner Simons <br />to accept the recommendation of the Charter Revision Committee <br />to stay with the four single member, two at large, Mayor at large <br />plan. Motion carried by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, and Simons. <br />NAYS: None. <br />+ + + <br /> <br />3. CONSIDER APPROVING PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 1171 - ORDINANCE <br />APPROVING DISTRICT BOUNDARY LINES SUBJECT fi0 THE APPROVAL BY <br />THE VOTERS OF THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PO-RTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO SUBMIT <br />THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH WOULD AFFECT VOTING, ALONG WITH <br />SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF <br />JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL - After the proposed ordinance was read In <br />full, motion by Commissioner Kibodeaux, seconded by Commissioner <br />Simons to approve Ordinance No. 1171 as read. Motion carried by <br />the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, and Simons. <br />NAYS: None. <br />CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE DISTRICT BOUNDARY LINES <br />SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE VOTERS OF THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME <br />RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />ATTORNEY TO SUBMIT THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH AFFECT VOTING, <br />ALONG WITH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPART- <br />MENT OF JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />HEREOF. <br /> <br />+ + + <br />
