~+ ~• • • <br />• <br />-2- <br />rental of voting machines; the appointment and employment of election <br />officers and clerks; obtaining of poll lists, tally lists, return <br />forms, and other necessary election materials; and, generally, shall <br />assume responsibility for the conduct of the joint election in each <br />of the nine (9) designated election precincts. <br />V. <br />The parties agree to pro-ratably share the common expenses of the <br />joint election, including rental of facilities and election machines, <br />and employment of election clerks in each of the nine (9) precincts, <br />and like expenses, such expenses to be shared pro-ratably based upon <br />the number of precincts used by a party. The parties will each pay <br />• their individual ex enses for such matters as <br />p printing of their <br />ballots to be placed on the election machines, and the publication <br />of legal notices. The parties shall each individually canvass their <br />respective election results. La Porte shall pay the legal expense <br />for a joint filing with the United States Department of Justice, <br />Voting Rights Division, for approval of the election precincts and <br />polling places. <br />VI. <br />No party hereto shall charge rental for the use of any of its <br />buildings or facilities for the joint election. <br />VII. <br />The ballots of each party shall be separately placed on the <br />• machine for voting, and only legal residents of a party shall be <br />allowed to vote for its officers. However, more than one ballot may <br />be placed on the same machine, with appropriate. "blocking locks" for <br />non-residents. <br />VIII. <br />The initial voting precincts for the joint elections to be held <br />under this Agreement, and until amended by further agreement of the <br />parties, with the approval of the United States Department of Justice, <br />• Voting Rights Division, are hereby established by the parties as <br />follows: <br />
