Rufus Smith, 1612 Roscoe, stated he was familiar with this property and he felt its best use would be Industrial; after all, its proximity to industry was such he could see no other use. Harold Pfeiffer, 1519 Brownell, spoke in favor of the project and the rezoning. Bill Signent, Houston, Texas, testified he is the buyer of the L~Iuller and Black property and it was such a beautiful and romantic setting he felt it best suited to a lovely restaurant and maybe a hotel. He also was considering plans for a townhome development at that location. He stated he felt the traffic situa- tion was much like living next to a railroad track, you soon get used to the noise and never hear it. John Sheffield, 1035 Oak Leaf, Shady River, advised the Council he was not a resident of La Porte but he was a builder of apart- ments and townhomes. He stated the site in question and the prop- erty to the north, in his opinion, are not suited for that kind of development. • [nlayne Godan, 1402 Beach Cove, stated he has a container busi- ness at 215 E. Main and there is a dire need for that kind of service in the area. Dorothy Garner, La Porte, advised Council of the noise created by the container storage yards. Garner invited Council to visit her home to see for themselves. Gus Brieden, 218 Garfield, addressed the Council favoring the rezoning of the tract in question. Florence Alworth (no address), stated she was speaking as a conservationist and asked that the site be retained in its present condition. John Quin, 2910 Old Highway 146, stated he was opposed to the rezoning of the Florance property. Kevin Graves, 620 Virginia, advised Council that people do not heed yellow flashing lights such as is proposed for this site. Councilwoman Cline stated the City has been attempting to develop the regional planning prepared by Texas A&M for some time now. This plan cost the City $12,000. She stated she felt it • would be wise for the City Council to postpone any action on this matter for further study.
