Council considered a recommendation from Public Works Director Jerry Hodge concerning a hydraulic excavating and grading machine. The City received two bids, both for the same machine (Gradall G-440). Hodge recommended the low bid of $92,200.00 from Hi-Way Equipment Company of Houston. Highway Equipment - no, Hi-Way Machinery Company out of Dallas. Well, I'd like for Mr. Hodge to fill us in on the purpose of this equipment. I know it's budgeted and we've discussed it, but in what way do you plan to utilize this equipment, Jerry? It will be used in our drainage program. We bud- geted three new dump trucks and this excavating machine. It will be used year round in the drain- age program. You have 3 dumps, and correct me if I'm wrong, the three dump trucks were to be utilized between the street work and the sanitation department - is that right? Not sanitation. We have a total of 5 dump trucks, or six. We have more dump trucks, but these 3 are for the drainage improvement program. I seem to recall somewhere in our conversation that at times like in Spring clean up, some of these dump trucks could be used for City clean up work. Isn't that right, Kibby? They can be. They are at times; I have seen them. Well, that's beside the point. I just wanted to clarify that these weren't strictly for .streets. Motion was made t the bid submitted at bid price of $92,200.00.
