Hudgens: Mayor, this is the item that was convered in the last work session. Under administrative reports, we asked the Council to go ahead and give preliminary approval for the variance because of the individual's contract for the work. We are now asking Council to formally approve that variance. Motion by Councilman Faris to grant the flood zone variance to L. W. Dickerson. Seconded by Councilman Simons. The motion carried, 5 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Faris, Kibodeaux, Simons, Wester- gren Nays: None 3a. The Joint Public hearing was then held by Planning and Zoning and City Council to consider a request to rezone a parcel of land between Highway 146 and Southern Pacific Railroad, being part or all of block 1177, 1178, 1179, 1180, 1181, 1182, 1183, 1196, 1197, 1198, 1199, 1200, from Commercial to Industrial • (with a special use permit to permit construction of a rail and truck-served freight terminal with rail spur). The Mayor stated that at this time the public is invited to come forth and express their feeling concerning this rezoning. Pdr. Frank Burleson with an architectrual firm is here to represent Interamerican Public Distribution Corporation. Mr. Burleson's firm is designing the facility. This facility will eventually hire in the neighborhood of 130-140 people. There will be a dock, 4-foot dock high warehouse, rail served, which 10 percent of their goods will be coming in by rail and they will be shipping in and out by trucks. Mayor ldeza: Where is this parcel of land located? Mr. Burleson: It is about 2000 feet south of Fairmont Parkway. Mayor Meza: South of Fairmont Parkway? Mr. Burleson: That's right. Mayor Meza: Are these blocks 1177, 1178, 1179, 1180, 1181, 1182, 1183, 1996, 1197, 1198, 1199, 1200? Mr. Burleson: Yes, sir, I believe that is correct. • Councilman Kibodeaux: How far is this from the townhomes or the apartments? Mr. Burleson: I am not sure on that, sir.
