Hudgens: Mayor, this is the item that was convered in <br />the last work session. Under administrative reports, we asked <br />the Council to go ahead and give preliminary approval for the <br />variance because of the individual's contract for the work. <br />We are now asking Council to formally approve that variance. <br />Motion by Councilman Faris to grant the flood zone variance <br />to L. W. Dickerson. Seconded by Councilman Simons. The motion <br />carried, 5 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Faris, Kibodeaux, Simons, Wester- <br />gren <br />Nays: None <br />3a. The Joint Public hearing was then held by Planning and Zoning <br />and City Council to consider a request to rezone a parcel of <br />land between Highway 146 and Southern Pacific Railroad, being <br />part or all of block 1177, 1178, 1179, 1180, 1181, 1182, 1183, <br />1196, 1197, 1198, 1199, 1200, from Commercial to Industrial <br />• (with a special use permit to permit construction of a rail <br />and truck-served freight terminal with rail spur). <br />The Mayor stated that at this time the public is invited to <br />come forth and express their feeling concerning this rezoning. <br />Pdr. Frank Burleson with an architectrual firm is here to <br />represent Interamerican Public Distribution Corporation. Mr. <br />Burleson's firm is designing the facility. This facility will <br />eventually hire in the neighborhood of 130-140 people. There <br />will be a dock, 4-foot dock high warehouse, rail served, <br />which 10 percent of their goods will be coming in by rail and <br />they will be shipping in and out by trucks. <br />Mayor ldeza: Where is this parcel of land located? <br />Mr. Burleson: It is about 2000 feet south of Fairmont Parkway. <br />Mayor Meza: South of Fairmont Parkway? <br />Mr. Burleson: That's right. <br />Mayor Meza: Are these blocks 1177, 1178, 1179, 1180, 1181, <br />1182, 1183, 1996, 1197, 1198, 1199, 1200? <br />Mr. Burleson: Yes, sir, I believe that is correct. <br />• Councilman Kibodeaux: How far is this from the townhomes or <br />the apartments? <br />Mr. Burleson: I am not sure on that, sir. <br />
