City Council considered the request of Director of Public <br />Works Hodge for the purchase of a new heat lamp vacuum ap- <br />plicator which is used to make traffic control signs. This <br />machine is a one-source item manufactured by the 3M Company. <br />The City received a quote from 3M Company for a 4 foot by <br />6 foot machine in the amount of $6,485.00. <br />The 1981-82 budget allows $5,000.00 for the purchase of this <br />machine. Hodge suggests the balance of $1,485.00 be trans- <br />ferred from Street Department, since there is $2,730.00 <br />remaining from the purchase of a new tar pot. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to purchase a 4 <br />foot by 6 foot Heat Lamp Vacuum Applicator sign machine), <br />a one-source item, from 3M Company in the amount of 6,485.00. <br />Seconded by Councilperson Malone. T e motion carried, 8 ayes <br />and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Simons, Gay, <br />• Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />14. City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE <br />NO. 1000 OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, DESIGNATING THE AREAS <br />WHERE BEER FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE PREMISES MAY BE SOLD AND <br />PROHIBITING THE SALE ELSEWHERE; PROVIDING FOR HOURS OF OPENING <br />AND CLOSING; PROVIDING SALE OF BEER FOR CONSUMPTION OFF PREMISES <br />SHALL NOT BE AFFECTED; DEFINING SOURCE OF AUTHORITY; PROVIDING <br />THAT NO LICENSE SHALL BE ISSUED EXCEPT FOR THE AREAS HEREIN <br />DESIGNATED; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Simons to approve and adopt <br />Ordinance No. 1000M as read by the City Attorney for Speedy Taco, <br />500 West Main. Seconded by Councilperson Faris. The motion <br />carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Simons, Gay, <br />Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />15. Council considered declaring an emergency due to the inopera- <br />bility of Unit 703-2, a 1979 Ford sideloader garbage truck. <br />The 3 cylinder industrial engine, which operates the lift for <br />containers, requires a complete overhaul. This is a critical <br />• piece of equipment. Funds are available in the 1981-82 budget. <br />
