The meeting was called to order by Mayor Cline at 7:00 P.M. <br /> Members of the City Council Present: Councilpersons <br /> Norman Malone, John Longley, Ed Matuszak, Kevin Graves, <br /> Lindsay Pfeiffer, Deotis Gay, Don Skelton, Linda Westergren <br /> and Mayor Virginia Cline <br /> Members of the City Council Absent: None <br /> Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, <br /> City Attorney Knox Askins, ~ssistant City Secretary Cherie <br /> Black, Parks Director Stan Sherwood, Public Works Director <br /> Jerry Hodge, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Graduate Engineer John <br /> Joerns, Adminstrative Director Bob Herrera <br /> . Others Present: County Engineer Dick Doss; Frieda Beaty, <br /> Bay town Sun; Pam Smith, La Porte Broadcaster; Jan Lammers, <br /> Lammers Partnership; approximately l8 citizens <br /> 2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Malone <br /> 3. Mr. K. Z. Wright addressed Council concerning the deep <br /> drainage ditch recently dug by Harris County Flood Control <br /> along Park Street. The Council's attention was called to a <br /> copy of a petition signed by 257 residents of the City of <br /> La Porte which was presented to County Judge Jon Lindsay on <br /> wednesday morning. The petition requests some acceptable <br /> action by the County to alleviate the immediate dangers <br /> presented by the deep ditch and requests the return of the <br /> property believed to have been unlawfully taken by the County. <br /> Harris County Engineer Dick Doss was present in the meeting <br /> and expressed County Commissioner Fonteno's concern in this <br /> ma tter. He further stated the matter is in the hands of an <br /> engineering firm. Doss requested time to complete his inves- <br /> tigation and make his recommendation. Doss asked to appear <br /> before the Council at the first meeting in January to present <br /> Council with his recommendations to the County Commissioners <br /> Court. <br /> . Councilperson Skelton requested a letter be sent to Judge <br /> Lindsay and Commissioner Fonteno expressing the Council's <br /> support of the petition presented by 257 residents of La Porte. <br />
