• • CITY OF LA PORTE INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM DECEMBER 20, 1983 r1 L J • • TO: Employee of the Quarter Committee FROM: Bert Clark SUBJECT: Employee of the Quarter I am delighted that I have been given the opportunity to nominate George.Turany, Parks Foreman, as Employee of the Quarter. George initially became employed with the City of La Porte on December 1, 1981, and the ongoing Parks Maintenance program has shown a.marked improvement since that date. George normally arrives at .work thirty minutes early to coordinate the days work schedule. He has also on occasion worked through lunch and breaks in order to complete a high priority task. No compensation has been required to motivate his earnest desire to get the job completed regardless of personal time lost. George has volunteered himself for "on-call" duty several times, not even considering compensation for.~this duty. George is a cost concerned employee, who has saved the City money oh numerous occasions. A metal light pole, which was blown down during the storm, was considered a loss and a replacement was needed. George improvised a technique whereby the damaged pole was remounted, providing a considerable savings to the City. George has also repaired the Public works ice machine on two separate occasions, eliminating a hundred dollar service call each time. George has worked for the Recreation Department on several programs. He assisted Lori Ray in the capacity of driver for a hay ride she had for her kids. He has also helped her collect cans for recycling, for the purpose of gaining needed revenue for the S.P.O.R.T. Program. George has volunteered to play Santa Claus every year for Tim Anderson's North Pole Calling project. All of the above mentioned work George has done for the Recreation Department was a donation of personal. time to the La Porte Community. In my opinion, George more than meets the criteria that has been established for Employee of the Quarter. .~ ~A ~~
