The meeting was called to order by Mayor Cline at 7:20 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Virginia Cline, <br />Councilpersons Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton, Linda Westergren, <br />John Longley, Ed Matuszak, Lindsay Pfeiffer <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilpersons Norman Malone, <br />Kevin Graves <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, <br />Director of Administrative Services Bob Herrera, Director <br />of Parks and Recreation Stanley Sherwood, Director of Public <br />Works Jerry Hodge, Assistant Fire Chief John Dunham <br />• <br />Others Present: Arlene Arends, Bayshore Sun-Broadcaster; <br />Linnea Schlobohm, Baytown Sun; representative from Pasadena <br />Citizen; 7 interested persons <br />2. Council considered adopting an ordinance suspending the <br />schedule of rates of Houston Lighting & Power Company. <br />Mr. Jim 6Vyatt, District Manager for HL&P was present and <br />answered questions from Council regarding the ordinance. <br />City Attorney Askins read: ORDINANCE 1407 - AN ORDINANCE <br />RECITING THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE HOUSTON LIGHTING & POWER <br />COMPANY (HL&P) STATEMENT OF INTENT TO CHANGE ELECTRIC RATES; <br />SUSPENDING THE SCHEDULE OF RATES OF HL&P FOR A PERIOD OF <br />NINETY (90) DAYS FROM THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF; AND PRO- <br />VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THIS ORDINANCE. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to adopt Ordinance <br />No. 1407 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Council- <br />person Longley. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Gay, Skelton, Westergren, Longley, <br />Matuszak, Pfeiffer and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />• 3.
