Ray - Purchasing <br />SUBJECT: Sealed Bid 40050 - Parklaa~ayground Equipment <br />Advertised sealed bids 440050 for the purchase of assorted park and play- <br />ground equipment were opened and read in City Council Chambers August 23, <br />1984 at 4 p.m. Bid invitations were mailed to three major park and play- <br />ground equipment distributors with all three firms returning bids. <br />Specifications established by the Parks Superintendent emphasized safety and <br />durability as well as ease of installation. Low bid was submitted by Vaughn <br />and Associates of Dallas, Texas on equipment built by Quality Industries. <br />Several pieces bid were slightly below specifications and their bid totalled <br />$7,904 with a delivery time of thirty to fourty-five days. Vaughn Associates <br />also offered a one year warranty on all equipment excluding vandalism and/or <br />faulty installation. <br />Second low bid was submitted~by~ Persenaire Park & Playground Equipment of <br />Houston, Texas in the amount of $8,377.70. Equipment is manufactured~:to~~speei- <br />fications by Gametime Inc. and carries a one-year warranty on metal parts and <br />a ten year warranty on pressure treated wood. Persenaire also offers a one <br />and one-half percent (1 1/2X) discount for payment within twenty days bringing <br />his net total bid to $8,252.03. <br />I hereby recommend accepting the second low bid by Persenaire Park & Playground <br />Equipment on the basis of their superior warranty and construction. I also <br />recommend the City of La Porte take advantage of the prompt payment discount <br />offered in his bid to bring the total price down to $8,252.03. <br />I trust you will concur with this recommendation. <br />JR/mb <br />cc: B.
