Herrera Department: Adm~nist anon <br />XX Report <br />Exhibits: <br />Resolution <br />SUMMARY ~ RECOMMENDATION <br />Ordinance <br />Over the last 3 months staff has ti.een working to develop a planning and <br />marketing tool to publicize the City''s southeast region. This attempt <br />at Target•Economic Development.is the first for La Porte. Within the <br />City's southeast City limits, La Porte has some tremendous assets to <br />compliment our Bay including: <br />• An 18-hole Municipal Golf Course; <br />• A $2 million dollar park ~ Little Cedar Bayou Park; <br />• The Sylvan Beach County Park; <br />e The Sylvan Beacfi.Convention Center; <br />• Historical Cemeteries; <br />• A governmental center complex including: <br />~" <br />- City Hall <br />- Regional Post Office. <br />-. .La Porte Independent School District Administrative Offices; <br />• A Rail System and a Major Highway Transportation System; • <br />• A good location to Port Activities (Bayport and Barbour's Cut); and <br />• Property that is prime for Long-Range Development. <br />These nine (9) elements are very important and reflect La Porte's positive thinking <br />in planning for our future. Through. target economic development planning the City <br />of La Porte is placed into a better position to control and encourage growth. "With <br />this tool in hand, the City can pursue commercial activity with regards to major <br />hotel franchises, conference center for professional development, and planned <br />unit developments which would accomodate prime residential and commercial <br />development. <br />Action Required by Council: Receive presentation from staff and Black & Veatch, <br />Architects. Upon-completion of report, indicate agreement and authorize printing <br />of Southeast~Mas"ter Plan tool for distribution.
