Council considered an ordinance amending Section 10-1000 <br />Commercial Use Table B of Ordinance 1501 to allow <br />free-standing on-premise signs with a maximum height of 65 <br />feet above adjacent grade in controlled access high sign <br />corridors. <br /> <br />At this time, the City Manager announced that Mr. Pepper <br />Massingill, representing McDonald's Corporation, was present <br />and wished to address Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Massingill commended the Planning and Zoning Commission <br />and the City on their cooperation and help with McDonald's <br />plans to come into La Porte. He went on to explain the <br />reasoning for moving the sign location and the visibility of <br />the sign's location. He also stated that the "GUS" sign will <br />be moved to a different location at McDonald's expense. <br /> <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1501-E - AN ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING ARTICLE III, OF ORDINANCE NO. 1501, THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE ZONING ORDINANCE, AMENDING SECTION 10-1000 COMMERCIAL <br />USE TABLE B; PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE TERMS OF <br />THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND <br />SHALL UPON CONVICTION BE FINED A SUM OF NOT MORE THAN ONE <br />THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) FOR EACH VIOLATION; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to adopt Ordinance <br />1501-E as read by the City Attorney, with the sign height <br />being 65 feet. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion <br />carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />
