Council considered an ordinance adopting a tax rate for general fund and debt service fund for FY 198-89. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1606 - AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES UPON TAXABLE PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN AND SUBJECT TO TAXATION IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR SUPPORT, MAINTENANCE, AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT OF SAID CITY OF LA PORTE; FINDING THAT ALL REQUIRED NOTICES HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED AND ALL REQUIRED HEARINGS HELD; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Waters to adopt Ordinance 1606 as read by the Citv Attorney. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 2 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, Porter, Shipp, Clarke and Mayor Malone Nays: Councilpersons Gay and Skelton 10. Council considered a resolution adopting the 1988 appraisal roll. The City Attorney read: RESOLUTION 88-14 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADOPTING THE 1988 APPRAISAL ROLL OF THE HARRIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT. Motion was made bv Counciloerson Waters to adopt Resolution 88-14 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson Gay. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays.
