<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />April 10, 1989, Page 2 <br /> <br />Mrs. Lee Ann Martin addressed Council to oppose the <br />right-of-way, stating that it would give undesirables access <br />to the school children. <br /> <br />Keith Martin address Council to oppose the right-of-way, <br />stating the traffic problems that could possibly be created on <br />the narrow street. <br /> <br />Robert Browning addressed Council in opposition to granting <br />the right-of-way, citing added traffic hazards to their back <br />street and the "opening" of the school grounds if the fence <br />opening is put in. <br /> <br />J. R. Spradling addressed Council to thank them for the new <br />street on Valley Brook. He also asked that something be done <br />about the brick walls at the entrance to Fairmont Park. <br /> <br />Bill Gwaltney addressed Council regarding mobile home parks in <br />the former BayMUD area and the issuance of permits for them. <br />He asked for consideration from Council and the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission that no area in BayMUD be permanently zoned <br />for mobile home parks. <br /> <br />6. Mrs. Lou Lawler, Mrs. Marie Dennis and Reverend Don Johnson <br />presented a status report on the Barbour's Cut Seamen's <br />Center. <br /> <br />7. Council was to consider a resolution authorizing acquisition <br />of sidewalk right-of-way on Elizabeth Lane to Lomax Elementary <br />School. This item was deferred until after the executive <br />session. <br /> <br />8. Council considered approving an expenditure to subsidize a <br />community concert. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to approve an <br />expenditure of $~,500 from the hotel/motel tax fund to <br />subsidize a community concert by the Houston Symphony <br />OrchestLa. Second by Councilperson Matuszak. The motion <br />carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, Porter, Shipp, <br />Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />
