! • <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />July 24, 1989, Page 5 <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Shipp, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Council addressed agenda item 8: Consider authorizing <br />additional funds from the available General Fund balance to <br />oppose Houston Chemical Services application for a commercial <br />hazardous waste incinerator facility. <br />The City Manager recommended additional funds in the amount <br />of $210,000 to cover expenses through September. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLauahlin to authorize <br />additional funds in the amount of 5300 000 in order to cover <br />anv unforeseen expenses over the 5210 000 recommended. Second <br />by Councilperson Cooper. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 1 <br />nay. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, <br />Shipp, Skelton, Clarke <br />Nays: Councilperson Gay <br />Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />and Mayor Malone <br />Executive Session items addressed by Council: <br />The City Manager was instructed to send a letter to Mr. Lee <br />Browning, informing Mr. Browning that the City had no interest <br />in pursuing a condemnation of his property. <br />The City Secretary was instructed to put an ordinance on the <br />next agenda to appoint members to the Fire Code Review <br />Committee. <br />The Council's consensus was to advise staff that the City is <br />not interested in acquiring an FBO at La Porte Municipal <br />Airport. <br />18. Council considered an ordinance accepting the resignation of <br />Councilperson at Large, Position B, and calling a special <br />election September 9, 1989. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1657 - AN ORDINANCE CALLING <br />A SPECIAL ELECTION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; TO FILL THE <br />VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILPERSON-AT-LARGE - POSITION B; <br />CALLING A RUN-OFF ELECTION, IF NECESSARY; DESIGNATING ELECTION <br />PRECINCTS AND POLLING PLACES; PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF VOTING <br />MACHINES; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR METHOD <br />AND DATES OF ABSENTEE VOTING; PROVIDING FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT <br />BOARD; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING DEADLINE AND <br />FILING FEES FOR CANDIDATES; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />
