Reverend Joe Lewis addressed Counc:il regarding the old Po::t <br />Office building site. His church wishes to purchase thc~ <br />building to use as a shelter for the homeless anil they have <br />an earnest money contract on the property. His concern was <br />that the City was still interested in purchasing 1:he property <br />for use as a senior citizens center. Reverend Lewis w~~: <br />assured that the City has no interest in purchasing the <br />building at this time and would not have any in t}ie future. <br />7. The Mayor called the Public Hearing to order. `T'his hear.in~.} <br />was to hear the request of the La Porte Independent School. <br />District for Special Exceptions to allow expans:i.on of three <br />schools (Rizzuto Elementary, Bayshore Elementary and Lom~~x <br />Elementary) located in R-1 Low Density Residential. zones. <br />Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht r.ev.iewed the <br />request for Council, and outlined the special condition: <br />recommended by the Planning and Toning Commission. <br />The Mayor asked for public input. There was none, and l_he <br />Mayor declared the public hearing closed. <br />8. The Mayor called the Citizens Participation meet:i.nc~ to order.. <br />This meeting was held to receive public inpr.rt regard:ii~g <br />Community Development Block Grarit proposals. <br />Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht reviewed lasL- <br />year's proposals. He then gave ttre recommended proposals oP <br />the Planning and Zoning Commission, which were ( ) a seni.c~r <br />citizens center; and (2) sidewalk and curb repair. rind putti_r~~ <br />wheelchair ramps on Main Street. <br />Council comments and recommendations were: Councilper.son <br />Skelton recommended that a senior citizens center }:~e our first <br />priority.
