A <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />March 26, 1990, Page 2 <br />At this time, Council adjourned into executive session at 6:23 <br />P.M. to address the following: (1) Legal - Meet with attorney <br />to discuss BayMUD Mobile Home litigation; (2) Legal - Meet <br />with attorney to receive a report regarding Houston Chemical <br />Services, Inc./Southern Ionics, Inc.; (3) Personnel - Meet <br />with Attorney regarding Worker's Compensation claim. Council <br />returned to the table at 7:05 P.M. <br />5. Council considered an ordinance closing portions of Tyler <br />Street, Madison Street, Iowa Street, and alleys in Blocks 416, <br />417, 418, 419, 434 and 435. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1693 - AN ORDINANCE <br />VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING PORTIONS OF TYLER STREET, <br />MADISON STREET, IOWA STREET, AND THE ALLEYS IN BLOCKS 416, <br />417, 418, 419, 434 AND 435, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS <br />COUNTY, TEXAS; ABANDONING CERTAIN PUBLIC UTILITY EASEMENTS; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING <br />CERTAIN CONDITIONS PRECEDENT TO THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to adopt Ordinance <br />1693 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />McLaughlin. <br />The City Attorney read the caption for Ordinance 1694, which <br />was item 6 on the agenda, as follows: ORDINANCE 1694 - AN <br />ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING PORTIONS OF TYLER <br />STREET, MADISON STREET, KANSAS STREET, UTAH STREET, AND THE <br />ALLEYS IN BLOCKS 432 AND 433, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS <br />COUNTY, TEXAS; ABANDONING CERTAIN PUBLIC UTILITY EASEMENTS; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING <br />CERTAIN CONDITIONS PRECEDENT TO THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Councilperson Skelton amended his motion to include the <br />adoption of Ordinances 1693 and 1694. Second by Councilperson <br />McLaughlin. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />6. Council considered an ordinance prohibiting smoking in public <br />places except in designated smoking areas. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1695 - AN ORDINANCE <br />PROHIBITING SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED <br />SMOKING AREAS; MAKING FINDINGS OF FACT; DECLARING SMOKING TO <br />BE A PUBLIC NUISANCE; DECLARING THAT A PERSON COMMITS AN <br />OFFENSE IF THE PERSON SMOKES AT A PUBLIC MEETING OR ANY PUBLIC <br />
