Randolph Woodard, <br />President of la Porte Community Concert Association <br /> <br />-------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />-------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Last year on April 10, 1989, the City Council in conjunction with the La <br />Porte Independent School District, united to fund a free community concert <br />dedicated to the children of our city. The community concert, enti tIed <br />"Sounds Like Fun", was performed by the Houston Symphony on June 14, 1989 at <br />the Sylvan Beach Convention Center, and was attended by over 400 individuals. <br /> <br />This is the fourth year the Houston symphony presents the "Sounds Like Fun" <br />music festival concerts for children. These concerts are performed <br />throughout the Houston metroplex, and in neighboring cities such as <br />Galveston, Pasadena, Texas city, Bay town , Atascocita, and The Woodlands. <br />Each concert is preceded by costumed characters. Symphony League volunteers <br />dressed as "living instruments", and a "petting zoo" compo,sed of actual <br />instruments children can touch and tryout. Children attending the concert <br />also receive a free activity book. <br /> <br />It is again requested that the City Council authorize funds for a free <br />community concert designed especially for children. The total cost for the <br />community concert is $2,275.00. This cost includes a $2,000.00 fee for the <br />Houston Symphony and $275.00 for the rental of the convention center.
