Memo from stan Sherwood <br /> <br />----------------------------------------------------------------- <br />----------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />The Community Development Block Grant Program is a Federal <br />Government Program that provides funds up to $250,000 for cities <br />similar to La Porte. Several requirements must be met by each <br />participating City which include public meetings, priortization of <br />request and submittal of the grant request. <br /> <br />The Planning & Zoning commission held a public meeting to hear <br />citizen input on proposed projects that will serve the targeted <br />Northside Area of La Porte. <br /> <br />The projects presented to the Planning & Zoning Commission by the <br />City staff and representatives of the Northside civic Club are as <br />follows: <br /> <br />1) Demolition of substandard structures - estimated cost <br />$50,000. <br /> <br />2) Replacement of the storm water drainage lines that are <br />located in Madison and Polk Streets extending from 6th <br />Street west under Hwy. 146 to Little Cedar Bayou - <br />estimated cost of drainage study and design - $50,000.00. <br /> <br />3) Complete renovation of the San Jacinto Municipal swimming <br />pool - estimated cost $100,000.00. <br /> <br />4) Installation of handicap access to 5 intersections on <br />Main Street - estimated cost $50,000.00. <br /> <br />5) Clearing and cleaning up of vacant lots wi thin the <br />Northside area. <br /> <br />The Planning & Zoning commission discussed each project and <br />assigned priorities as shown on the first four items in their <br />recommendation to the City Council.
