Mr. Mitchell McClain of PPG presented a brief report on a <br />conference he attended recently and suggested several programs <br />the City could initiate and/or continue in order to Keep Texas <br />Beautiful. <br /> <br />6. Ms. Dorothy Sloan, 2218 Lomax School Road addressed Council <br />regarding a variance to allow her to replace a mobile home on <br />her property. Ms. Sloan was advised to contact the Code <br />Enforcement Division for procedures on what can be done. <br /> <br />Council then addressed item 25. <br /> <br />25. Council considered awarding a contract for the La Porte <br />Recreation Center. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv CouncilDerson Skelton to award the contract <br />for the La Porte Recreation Center to Marcus Thomas & ComDany. <br />Second by Councilperson Cooper. The motion carried, 9 ayes <br />and 0 nays. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke <br />Malone <br />None <br /> <br />Thrower, <br />and Mayor <br /> <br />Ayes: <br /> <br />council at this time proceeded with the regular order of the <br />agenda. <br /> <br />7. Mayor Malone called the public hearing regarding dangerous <br />buildings to order. <br /> <br />Joel Albrecht and Mark Lewis briefly reviewed the buildings <br />on the list. Seventeen buildings were originally listed. <br />However, due to some of the buildings being demolished by the <br />individuals and/or notification letters being returned <br />unclaimed and/or change of ownership, some of the buildings <br />were removed from the list. Three that still appear on the <br />agenda are to be pulled, also. One has given consent to <br />demolish, one removed due to question of ownership, and one <br />due to owner applying for a building permit for that property. <br /> <br />The Mayor called for public input. Mr. Allan Lee addressed <br />Council regarding the building located on lots 12 and 13, <br />block 74, 217 South Carroll. He stated that they are in the <br />process of selling that property to Mrs. Bryan Bertram, who <br />has a firm plan to salvage the frame and foundation of the <br />structure, remove the rubble, maintain the yard, and board up <br />the house. <br />
