The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1829 - AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING RATES FOR THE USE OF THE MUNICIPAL RECREATION AND FITNESS CENTER Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to adoDt Ordinance 1829 as read by the city Attorney. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 1 nay. Nays: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone Councilperson Gay Ayes: Councilperson Gay wished to state for the record that his nay vote was because he feels the citizens already pay taxes and if they have to pay to use the facility, they are being double taxed. 12. Council considered an ordinance closing a portion of South 17th Street. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1830 - AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF SOUTH 17TH STREET, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by CouncilDerson McLauahlin to ado~t Ordinance 1830 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. Nays: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone None Ayes: 13. Council considered an ordinance approving and authorizing an occupancy agreement between the City of La Porte and the Texas Department of Human Resources. The city Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1831 - AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING AN OCCUPANCY AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, DATED MARCH 11, 1992; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
