In his <br />opinion, seniors want to pay their fair share, and he sees <br />nothing wrong with paying half price. <br /> <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1829 - AN ORDINANCE <br />ESTABLISHING RATES FOR THE USE OF THE MUNICIPAL RECREATION AND <br />FITNESS CENTER <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to adoDt Ordinance <br />1829 as read by the city Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Thrower. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 1 nay. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Councilperson Gay <br /> <br />Ayes: <br /> <br />Councilperson Gay wished to state for the record that his nay <br />vote was because he feels the citizens already pay taxes and <br />if they have to pay to use the facility, they are being double <br />taxed. <br /> <br />12. Council considered an ordinance closing a portion of South <br />17th Street. <br /> <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1830 - AN ORDINANCE <br />VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF SOUTH 17TH <br />STREET, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by CouncilDerson McLauahlin to ado~t Ordinance <br />1830 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Clarke. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />None <br /> <br />Ayes: <br /> <br />13. Council considered an ordinance approving and authorizing an <br />occupancy agreement between the City of La Porte and the Texas <br />Department of Human Resources. <br /> <br />The city Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1831 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING AN OCCUPANCY AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE AND THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, <br />DATED MARCH 11, 1992; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />
