<br />l1.JJ~rrraa: Offker David Darby was a mojor force in getting the
<br />DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program
<br />into the La Porte schools in 1989; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Officer Darby has taught over 1800 students to recognize the
<br />dangers of drugs and to give them tools to use to resist temptation, and conducted drug
<br />information programs for parents; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Parents and teachers alike have seen positive changes in the youth
<br />who have had this training from Officer Darby and fellow Officer Richard Ayers; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, For his outstanding efforts in the DARE program, Officer Darby
<br />was, on June 12, 1992, named as DARE OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR TEXAS.
<br />
<br />NO~ THEREFORE, I, NORMAN L. MALONE, MAYOR of
<br />the City of La Porte, do hereby proclaim that Officer David Darby is to be congratulated for his
<br />work with the DARE program, and for the honors he has received through his dedication to the
<br />youth of La Porte.
<br />
<br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the
