Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />January 11, 1993, Page 2 <br />Department, and introduced the personnel who were in <br />attendance: Linda Stubbs, Shirley Mosely and Sukki Choi. <br />6. Mr. Doyle Westergren addressed Council regarding the <br />development of plans for a hotel -convention center. He asked <br />questions regarding this subject, and when he had concluded, <br />City Manager Herrera noted that he would hope to answer them <br />when he addressed Council on item 12. <br />7. Council considered an ordinance amending Ordinance 1829, <br />establishing rates for use of the La Porte Recreation and <br />Fitness Center. <br />Director of Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood reported that <br />the ordinance does not increase any rates; the amendments <br />address clarifying intents and reducing verbiage. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1829-A - AN ORDINANCE <br />ESTABLISHING THE RATES FOR THE USE OF THE LA PORTE RECREATION <br />AND FITNESS CENTER <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Maxwell to adopt Ordinance <br />1829-A as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Clarke. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />At this time, Mayor Malone asked that Lou Lawler approach the <br />Council table. Item 4 was then addressed. <br />4. The Mayor presented Lou Lawler with a proclamation naming <br />January 11, 1993, as Lou Lawler Day in the City of La Porte, <br />in honor of her many contributions to the community. Mrs. <br />Lawler expressed her thanks to all those who have helped her <br />in her endeavors, especially her family. <br />8. Council considered an ordinance approving and authorizing a <br />lease for fixed base operations for City of La Porte Municipal <br />Airport between the City of La Porte and Gulf Central <br />Aviation, Inc. This ordinance had been tabled by <br />Councilperson Maxwell at the December 14 meeting. <br />Councilperson Maxwell requested that this item be brought back <br />to the Council table. <br />
