Mayor Malone read letter from Chuck Harrington recommending Planning Department Secretary Peggy Lee as "Employee of the Quarter". Chuck Harrington presented a plaque to Peggy Lee. 6. Mrs. Lou Lawler addressed Council regarding the Seafarers Center. She gave a brief history of the founding of the Center and invited Council and staff to the dedication ceremonies Friday June 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. The new address for the center is 1700 East Barbours Cut Boulevard. Mrs. Lawler thanked Council for their help in making the center a reality. 7. Council considered ordinance repealing Ordinance 1812 requesting vacating, abandoning and closing a portion of North 17th Street. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 93-1812-A - AN ORDINANCE REPEALING "AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF NORTH 17TH STREET, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS"; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1000-EE - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1000 OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, DESIGNATING THE AREAS WHERE BEER FOR CONSUMPTION ON PREMISES MAY BE SOLD AND PROHIBITING THE SALE ELSEWHERE; PROVIDING FOR HOURS OF OPENING AND CLOSING; DEFINING SOURCE OF AUTHORITY; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING THAT NO LICENSE SHALL BE ISSUED EXCEPT FOR THE AREA HEREIN DESIGNATED; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
