• • <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CALLED JOINT WORKSHOP MEETING OF THE <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE <br />JUNE 7, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Deotis Gay, Jack Maxwell, Jerry Clarke. <br />(Councilperson Alton Porter came in after the meeting had <br />begun) <br />Members of Chamber of Commerce Present: President Kathleen <br />Lemon, President Elect Harry Hank, Vice President Lorretta <br />Smith, Vice President Barry Beasley and Executive Vice <br />President John Paul Zemanek <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns and City Secretary Sue <br />Lenes <br />,Others Present: Citizen Brad Aaron, representing the <br />Meadowcrest Homeowners Association <br />2. Opening comments were made by City Manager Bob Herrera who <br />gave a brief back ground on the preparation of the agenda <br />formate. The Chamber of Commerce President Kathleen Lemon <br />introduced the order of business. Loretta Smith began the <br />discussion of how the Chamber operates and passed out a packet <br />of information to each person present. The packets were a <br />overview of the City of La Porte and the many amenities it <br />offers businesses and residents. Each of the Chamber Vice <br />Presidents explained a portion of the Chamber operation. <br />3. Kathleen Lemon discussed the working relationship between the <br />City and the Chamber and mentioned how cooperative Tim <br />O'Connor and all Parks and Recreation personnel have been and <br />how much the Chamber appreciates the City Council and City <br />staff and their relationship to the Chamber of Commerce and <br />it's activities. <br />4. Vice President Barry Beasley discussed economic development <br />and the goals the Chamber is pursuing to bring new businesses <br />to La Porte. <br />5. Harry Hank discussed contract obligations between the City and <br />Chamber. Mr. Hank gave an overview of the obligations of both <br />Chamber and City and the procedures followed in assessment and <br />collection of the Hotel Occupancy Tax. <br />
