Following the Council's direction the Commission began a <br />comprehensive review of the sign regulations with emphasis on areas of known <br />concern. The review of the regulations was completed over a series of two <br />workshops and one public hearing conducted during the month of April. A new <br />section was drafted to meet the changing conditions of La Porte during the past two <br />years since the ordinance was last amended. <br /> <br />In addition the Planning and Zoning Commission also initiated a change to Section <br />6-400, Commercial Table A. In the past mini-warehouses were restricted to Industrial <br />Zoning Districts only. As these types of uses are designed to serve primarily <br />residential customers, this restriction was limiting the warehouses ability to serve their <br />clients. By allowing their use in the General Commercial (GC) District by Conditional <br />Use Permit, we will allow them to be closer to their cliental and at the same time <br />insure that their development will not detract from the surrounding neighborhood. <br /> <br />Attached please find a copy of the proposed new regulations that are presented for <br />Public Hearing. These proposals were unanimously recommended by the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission following their Public Hearing. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />The Planning and Zoning Commission recommends that City Council hold a Public <br />Hearing on the proposed changes to Section 3-1000, Section 6-400, and Section <br />10-1000 of the City of La Porte Zoning Ordinance and approve an ordinance adopting <br />those amendments. <br /> <br />Action Required by Council: <br /> <br />1. Hold Public Hearing on proposed ordinance amendments. <br /> <br />2.
