MINUTES BUDGET WORKSHOP AND REGULAR MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 23, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 <br />P. M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, Jack Maxwell, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Sue Lenes, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Fire <br />Chief Joe Sease, Director of Finance Jeff Litchfield, Director <br />of Administrative Services Louis Rigby, Director of Planning <br />Chuck Harrington, Acting Director of Parks and Recreation Bert <br />Clark, Assistant Fire Chief Champ Dunham, Buyer Susan Kelley <br />Director Public Works Steve Gillett <br />Others Present: Three Citizens were present. <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Thrower. <br />3. Council considered approving minutes of Public Hearing and <br />Regular Meeting August 9, 1993. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to approve the <br />minutes of August 9 as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Sutherland. The motion carried, 9 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. Mrs. Lou Lawler invited Council to the annual Barbours Cut <br />Seafarers Center Golf Tournament to be held on Tuesday, <br />September 28, 1993 at the Bay Forest Golf Course. Mrs. Lawler <br />reminded Council in the past they have acted as valet service <br />on the day of the tournament and she asked Council if they <br />would do so again. She recommended that her District <br />Councilperson Deotis Gay be in charge of the valet service and <br />let him "pop the whip". <br />
