Council considered an ordinance creating within the Municipal <br />Court of the City of La Porte the position of City Marshall. <br /> <br />Judge J. B. Williamson spoke at this time responding to <br />questions raised to Council about the problems of drugs and <br />crime. Judge Williamson stated that the city is aware of the <br />problems and his Court and the Police Department have <br />established many programs for juveniles and their family <br />members. He commended the Mayor and Council for the steps <br />they are taking to provide answers and assistance to the <br />community and school district regarding crime and drug traffic <br />in the City of La Porte. <br /> <br />Judge Williamson explained the need for an ordinance <br />clarifying standards and qualifications of the position of <br />City Marshall. <br /> <br />city Attorney read: ORDINANCE NO. 93-1950 - AN ORDINANCE <br />CREATING WITHIN THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />THE POSITION OF CITY MARSHAL; ESTABLISHING STANDARDS FOR <br />QUALIFICATION OF CITY MARSHAL; PROVIDING FOR SUPERVISION OF <br />THE CITY MARSHAL; DEFINING AND LIMITING THE SCOPE OF THE <br />MARSHAL'S AUTHORITY; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS <br />LAW; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv Counciloerson Maxwell to aoorove Ordinance <br />93-1950 as read bv the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Cooper. Council considered an ordinance authorizing updated service <br />credits and increased annuities for 1994. <br /> <br />Director of Administrative Services Louis Rigby and Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns answered questions from Council <br />regarding increase annuities. <br /> <br />(councilperson Maxwell withdrew from the Council table for the <br />discussion and vote on this ordinance.) <br />
