<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Minutes Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City council <br />November 8, 1993, Page 4 <br /> <br />(Councilperson Deotis Gay left the Council table to speak as <br />a citizen in behalf of the constituents of District 4) <br /> <br />Mr. Deotis Gay, 214 North 9th Street, addressed Council <br />regarding his concern of the drug traffic in the vicinity of <br />Jennie Riley civic Center. Mr. Gay stated he was aware of the <br />City Budget and the fact the City could not hire more <br />policemen, and he is aware of the hardship it would cause to <br />work the officers overtime. He said the city would have to <br />seek other funds to put extra officers in that area. Mr. Gay <br />stated "I am here as a citizen to ask this Council to do what <br />ever it can to alleviate the problem in that area". Mr. Gay <br />stated he had a list signed by citizens from the community who <br />are concerned about what is happening in the Northside area. <br />He stated he has given the list to John Joerns for City <br />Manager Bob Herrera. <br /> <br />(Councilperson Gay was seated back at the Council table at <br />6:32) <br /> <br />5. Council canvassed election returns and considered ordinance <br />declaring results of the November 2, 1993, Special Election. <br /> <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 93-1945 - AN ORDINANCE DECLARING <br />THE RESULTS OF A SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />ON NOVEMBER 2, 1993, FOR THE PURPOSE OF VOTING FOR OR AGAINST <br />A PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF THAT PORTION LITTLE <br />CEDAR BAYOU PARK SITUATED EAST OF OLD HIGHWAY 146; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />City Attorney stated: the ordinance recites there were cast at <br />the election, 532 votes for, 565 votes against and the <br />election failed to pass. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Thrower to apDrove Ordinance <br />93-1945 as read bY the city Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />McLaughlin. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />None <br /> <br />Ayes: <br />
