Minutes of Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />February 13, 1995, Page 9 <br />City Manager Robert T. Herrera reported that President Clinton <br />announced a new policy where he was providing more funding for <br />the municipal side for police matters. Mr. Herrera asked <br />Chief Bobby Powell to give Council a update. <br />Chief Bobby Powell reported, "Wednesday evening the City of La <br />Porte received word from the U.S Attorney of the Houston <br />District, Gay Nell Griffin Jones, that La Porte has been <br />awarded $69,628.50 under the new Crime Bill Act. We have not <br />received all of the information to date, but we are under the <br />impression this will be for two new Police Officers. This is <br />a 75% to 25% matching grant for three years." As soon as we <br />receive all the information we will review with the City <br />Manager to ascertain what the City should do with these funds. <br />18. COUNCIL ACTION <br />411F <br />Councilpersons Cooper, McLaughlin, Gay, Maxwell and Mayor <br />Malone brought item to Council's attention. <br />City Attorney Knox Askins introduced two young City of La <br />Porte citizens to Council, Christy Jacobs and Clark Askins. <br />Mr. Askins stated, "These young citizens have a great interest <br />in their City Government." <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION - PURSUANT TO PROVISION OF THE OPEN MEETING <br />LAW, CHAPTER 551.071 THROUGH 551.076.
