Minutes Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />June 26, 1995, Page 2 <br />4. PRESENTATION: <br />A. PRESENTATION TO RETIRING MEMBER OF PLANNING AND ZONING <br />COMMISSION <br />Mayor Pro Tem. Alton Porter asked Planning and Zoning <br />Commission Chairman Betty Waters, retiring board member Inge <br />Browder, and Chief Building Official Mark Lewis to come before <br />Council for a presentation. Mayor Pro Tem. Porter read a <br />profile regarding Ms. Browder's contribution and the many <br />accomplishments made by the Planning and Zoning Commission <br />during her approximate twelve years of dedicated service. <br />Chief Building Official Mark Lewis presented a plaque to Ms. <br />Browder. Ms. Browder thanked Council for the plaque and the <br />recognition given to the Planning and Zoning Commission. <br />Betty Waters stated, "Inge could always be counted on to bring <br />about a real thorough discussion on any topic presented to the <br />Commission." <br />Mayor Pro Tem. Porter introduced the new Director of Planning <br />Guy Rankin. Assistant City Manager John Joerns stated, "Mr. <br />Rankin comes to us from the Harris County Community <br />Development Agency where he was instrumental in starting their <br />first planning department. He also had approximately two and <br />one half years of service with the City of Houston. Prior to <br />that Mr. Rankin was with a Council of Governments region <br />planning effort in North Carolina." Mr. Joerns indicated the <br />City of La Porte is very pleased to have Mr. Rankin on board, <br />and we are looking forward, with his assistance, to continue <br />to progress in the area of planning, community and economic <br />development. <br />Director of Planning Guy Rankin stated, "I am glad to be here. <br />It seems like a friendly town, and I am glad you chose me for <br />your Planning Director." Council welcomed Mr. Rankin. <br />S. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND TAR <br />PAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL <br />There were no citizens wishing to address Council. <br />6. CONSIDER APPROVING AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SCHOOL ZONES <br />WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE (Ord. 95-1466-G) - B. Jacobs <br />Assistant Director of Public Works Buddy Jacobs reviewed the <br />summary and staff recommendation regarding this request. <br />
