Minutes Regular Meeting La Porte City Council June 26, 1995, Page 2 4. PRESENTATION: A. PRESENTATION TO RETIRING MEMBER OF PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION Mayor Pro Tem. Alton Porter asked Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Betty Waters, retiring board member Inge Browder, and Chief Building Official Mark Lewis to come before Council for a presentation. Mayor Pro Tem. Porter read a profile regarding Ms. Browder's contribution and the many accomplishments made by the Planning and Zoning Commission during her approximate twelve years of dedicated service. Chief Building Official Mark Lewis presented a plaque to Ms. Browder. Ms. Browder thanked Council for the plaque and the recognition given to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Betty Waters stated, "Inge could always be counted on to bring about a real thorough discussion on any topic presented to the Commission." Mayor Pro Tem. Porter introduced the new Director of Planning Guy Rankin. Assistant City Manager John Joerns stated, "Mr. Rankin comes to us from the Harris County Community Development Agency where he was instrumental in starting their first planning department. He also had approximately two and one half years of service with the City of Houston. Prior to that Mr. Rankin was with a Council of Governments region planning effort in North Carolina." Mr. Joerns indicated the City of La Porte is very pleased to have Mr. Rankin on board, and we are looking forward, with his assistance, to continue to progress in the area of planning, community and economic development. Director of Planning Guy Rankin stated, "I am glad to be here. It seems like a friendly town, and I am glad you chose me for your Planning Director." Council welcomed Mr. Rankin. S. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND TAR PAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL There were no citizens wishing to address Council. 6. CONSIDER APPROVING AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SCHOOL ZONES WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE (Ord. 95-1466-G) - B. Jacobs Assistant Director of Public Works Buddy Jacobs reviewed the summary and staff recommendation regarding this request.
