0 • <br />Minutes Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />June 26, 1995, Page 6 <br />be the fault of City personnel involved and staff will keep <br />Council informed on all these matters. <br />A) Chief Bobby Powell came before Council seeking approval to <br />start a motorcycle unit within the City of La Porte Police <br />Department. Chief Powell said due to the growth of the City <br />these units will be very beneficial. These units will be <br />equipped with radar for speed control. The motorcycles will <br />be owned by individual officers and leased to the City for a <br />fee of $450.00 per month for each motorcycle. This fee will <br />cover the up -keep of the unit. The officer owning the <br />motorcycle will be responsible for the repairs, oil, tires, <br />brakes, insurance and other maintenance. The gasoline will be <br />worked out on the basis of use to the City per week, as the <br />units will be utilized by the officer for other jobs which <br />they preform. Chief Powell said there will be some special <br />equipment required which the City will be responsible. He <br />said the funds are available in the existing budget to carry <br />the expenditures to October and the beginning of the new <br />budget year. <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns asked for Council direction <br />to order the equipment. An affirmative response from Council <br />is needed to begin this program. Mayor Pro Tem Porter asked <br />if there were any objections from Council to the proposed <br />motorcycle units. No objections were heard. City Manager <br />Joerns stated, "Not having heard any objections, we will <br />proceed." Mr. Joerns also announced the budget workshops will <br />begin on August 14 after the City Council meeting. <br />Chief Powell introduced Officer George Young and David Hoffman <br />who will be operating the two motorcycle units. <br />11. COUNCIL ACTION <br />Councilpersons Maxwell, Gay, McLaughlin, Thrower, Cooper, <br />Sutherland and Mayor Pro Tem Porter brought items to Council's <br />attention. <br />12. CODE, <br />VERNON'S TEXAS CODES ANNOTATED, - (CONSULTATION WITH ATTORNEY, <br />DELIBERATION REGARDING REAL PROPERTY, DELIBERATION REGARDING <br />PROSPECTIVE GIFT OR DONATION, PERSONNEL MATTERS, CONFERENCE <br />WITH EMPLOYEES, DELIBERATION REGARDING SECURITY DEVICES, OR <br />EXCLUDING A WITNESS DURING EXAMINATION OF ANOTHER WITNESS IN <br />AN INVESTIGATION) <br />There were no items to be discussed in executive session. <br />
