• • <br />Minutes Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />February 12, 1996, Page 3 <br />PROVIDING FOR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR <br />NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING DEADLINE AND FILING FEES FOR CANDIDATES; <br />PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Gay to approve Ordinance 96-2090 be approved as read by the City <br />Attornev. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carried, 9 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and <br />Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />8. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN ORDINANCE APPROVING <br />AND AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT FOR COLLECTION OF DELINQUENT TAXES BY AND <br />BETWEEN CITY OF LA PORTE AND DEXTER D. JOYNER (Ord. 96-2091) - C. Alexander <br />Assistant Finance Director Cynthia Alexander reviewed the summary and recommendation to either approve <br />or reject Ordinance 96-2091. Assistant Finance Director Cynthia Alexander and City Manager Robert T. <br />Herrera answered Council questions. Mr. Herrera stated, "At the end of this two year term the City and <br />the School District, since we are the largest property owners that has a taxing entity, have agreed that the <br />City of La Porte will take a lead in hiring of the future Delinquent Tax Attorney. Right now if we did not <br />have Dexter Joyner and if the School District did not have Dexter Joyner perhaps we could have a <br />problem. At the end of this two year period we will either continue with Dexter Joyner or someone else." <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 96-2091 - AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING <br />A CONTRACT FOR COLLECTION OF DELINQUENT TAXES BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE AND DEXTER D. JOYNER; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETING LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to approve Ordinance 96-2091 as read by the City <br />Attornev. Second by Councilperson Maxwell. Rigby <br />Director of Administrative Services Louis Rigby reviewed the summary and recommendation for the <br />request. Mr. Rigby, Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Herrera answered Council question. <br />
