e e Minutes Public Hearing and Regular Meeting La Porte City Council April 22, 1996, Page 5 12. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING THE ADDITION OF THREE PERSONNEL TO THE EMS DMSION - R. T. Herrera City Manager Robert T. Herrera reviewed the summary and recommendation for the request for three additional paramedic personnel in the EMS Division. Mr. Herrera asked that Council appropriate approximately $32,000 for the remainder of the current fiscal year from the General Fund contingency account to fund this request. He stated, "This would insure that the level of service our citizens are currently receiving is adequate, improved, and better as time goes on". Mayor Malone read a letter, see Exhibit A, from Councilperson Porter who was unable to attend the meeting tonight due to an out-of-state business meeting. Mr. Porter's letter stated, as member of the audit committee, he is in support of the recommendation and would like to encourage other Councilmembers to support the recommendation. Mr. Herrera stated, "As a result of this effort to improve our services, I would like to have a Workshop with the City Council perhaps on May 13th to address some of the EMS policies concerning one, Municipal Aide agreement with neighboring communities, and also issues dealing with transportation". Motion was made bv Councilperson Maxwell to approve the request for three additionall'ersonnel to the EMS Division. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carried, 7 ayes, and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke, and Mayor Malone Nays: None 13. CONSIDER AWARDING A BID FOR INSECTICIDES AND FAIRWAY FERTILIZERS TO GOLD KIST, AND HERBICIDES, FUNGICIDES, GREENS GRADE FERTILIZER, AND OTHER PRODUCTS TO TERRA INTERNATIONAL - A. Osmond Golf Course Superintendent Dennis Hlavaty reviewed the recommendation for awarding the bid. Motion was made by Council person Clarke to award the bid as presented bv Mr. Hlavaty. Second by Council person Thrower. The motion carried, 7 ayes, and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke, and Mayor Malone Nays: None 14. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS City Manager Robert T. Herrera reminded Council this weekend is Sylvan Beach Day. The Council is invited to participate in the festivities. You have been asked to meet at the Fitness Center at 8:30. If you are not planning to attend the festivities, please notify Sue Lenes or Carol Buttler. Mayor Malone reminded Council that each had contributed $20.00 last year for candy to be distributed during the parade and asked that this be done again this year. Councilperson Maxwell recommended Councilperson Sutherland be in charge of this project. Councilperson Sutherland agreed to the suggestion.
