• MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC HEARING AND REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL AUGUST 26, 1996 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman L. Malone at 6:00 P.M. Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman L. Malone, Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, Jack Maxwell and Jerry Clazke Members of Council Absent: None Members of City Staff and City Employees Present: Assistant City Manager John Joerns, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Sue Lenes, Director of Finance/ACM Jeff Litchfield, Director of Administrative Services Louis Rigby, Director of Planning Guy Rankin, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Assistant Finance Director Cynthia Alexander, Purchasing Agent Susan Kelley, Chief Building Official Art Flores, Inspector Debbie Wilmore Others Present: Mr. Carlton Porter, representing Houston Lighting and Power Company and several La Porte citizens 2. INVOCATION BY REV. DAVID COCHRAN - LA PORTE WORSHIP CENTER In the absence of Rev. David Cochran the invocation was given by Mayor Malone. 3. CONSIDER APPROVING MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 12, 1996 Council considered approving minutes of Regular Meeting August 12, 1996. Motion was made by Councilperson Cooper to approve the minutes of August 12 as presented. Second by Councilperson Sutherland. The motion carried, 7 ayes, 0 nays, and 1 abstain. (Councilperson Porter was away from the table for the vote.) Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Gay, Maxwell, and Mayor Malone Nays: None Abstain: Councilperson Clarke 4. PRESENTATION: EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER -APRIL, MAY, AND JUNE Mayor Malone reported Debbie Wilmore, Inspector II, has been selected as the "Employee of the Quarter" for the months of April, May, and June and read a dossier of Ms. Wilmore's accomplishments. Director of Planning Guy Rankin presented Ms. Wilmore with a plaque to commemorate her selection.
