<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Minutes Public Hearing <br />and Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />September 23, 1996, Page 5 <br /> <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 96-2133 - AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND <br />ADOPTING THE BUDGET FOR THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, FOR THE PERIOD <br />OF OCTOBER 1, 1996 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 1997; FINDING THAT ALL THINGS <br />REQUISITE AND NECESSARY HAVE BEEN DONE IN PREPARATION AND <br />PRESENTMENT OF SAID BUDGET; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to approve Ordinance 96-2133 adopting the <br />bud~et for the fiscal year 1996-97 as read by the City Attorney. Mr. Sutherland said he was <br />pleased there is no increase in taxes or fees. and we should feel proud to present a progressive <br />budget that doesn't cost the residents anymore. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion <br />carried, 9 ayes, 0 nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, <br />Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />7. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING A RESOLUfION OF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADOPTING THE 1996 <br />APPRAISAL ROLL OF THE HARRIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT (Res. 96-07) - <br />K. Powell <br /> <br />Revenue Supervisor Kathy Powell reviewed the summary and recommendation for the acceptance <br />of the 1996 Certified Tax Roll showing the total appraised value of $1,233,901,980 and a total <br />taxable value of $1,114,557,880. After answering questions for Council, Mrs. Powell <br />recommended the adoption of Resolution 96-07 which adopts the 1996 Appraisal Roll of the <br />Harris County Tax Appraisal District. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaul!hlin to approve Resolution 96-07 ado,pting the 1996 <br />Appraisal Roll of the Harris County Appraisal District. Second by Councilperson Thrower.
