Office of the Mayor <br />1111 <br />Tobacco, olcohol, and other drug abuse in this nation <br />has reached epidemic stages, and the IS-24 year old <br />age group 1s dying at a faster rote than any other age <br />group; and <br />WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts <br />by community members be launched to r~eduee the demand for drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, the La Pone Independent School District Drug-Free Schools and <br />Communities ane sponsoring the Red Ribbon Campaign offering citizens the opporYUnity to <br />demonstrate their commitment to drug free 1~esryles; and <br />WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in every community <br />in America during 'Red Ribbon Week', October 2x26, 1996; and <br />WHEREAS, commitment to drug-free healthy lifestyles will be demonstrated <br />by wearing and displaying r+ed ribbons during this week-long campaign. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, NORMAN L. MALONE, MAYOR of the <br />City of I.a Porte, do hereby proclaim the week of October 20-26, 1996, as <br />RED RIBBON WEEK <br />in the City of La Porte, and eneouragt all citizens to support the Red Ribbon Campaign in an <br />effort to enhance tlu quality of life in a drug free La Pone, Texas. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hentauo set my hand and caused the Seal <br />of the City to be a,~xed hereto, this the 14th day of October, 1996. <br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br />No an L.
