<br />The American Legion Post 428 Baseball Program was
<br />started in 1925, and was the first nation-wide organized
<br />league for amateur baseball players under the age of 19
<br />in the Country,' and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the 1996 team is the first La Porte American Legion team to
<br />advance to the Texas' State Toumamenl in the seventy years of competition,' and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the 1996 American Legion Post 428 team won the District 22
<br />Championship, the Division 2 Championship, and finished third in the State; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the 1996 roster consists of Baseball Committee Chainnan Jerry
<br />Vaughn, Manager Bill White, Head Coach Bill Gori, Assistant Coach Danny McCabe, Assistant
<br />Coach Mark Hopkins,' Players Kasey Bryanl, J. C. Cavazos, Derek Garvin, Joey Gori, Danny
<br />Hanks, Michael Hanks, Bobby Herrera, Josh Johnson, Blake Kendrick, Adam Lee, Nathan Mills,
<br />Chris Nichols, Ricky Pena, Bo Perdew, Eric Perdew, Bret Stout, Robert Tabb, Je.ffVaughn and
<br />Reserve Players, Jeremy Powell and Josh Soileau,' and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas,
<br />to express their congratulations to the 1996 American Legion Post 428 Baseball Team, their
<br />coaching stqff, and all those involved with making this "'!he Greatest Baseball Team of the
<br />Year".
<br />
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, NORMAN L. MAWNE, MAYOR of the
<br />City of La Porte, do hereby proclaim November 11, 1996, as
<br />
<br />1996 AMERICAN LEGION POST 428 BASEBALL TEAM DAY
<br />
<br />in the City of La Porte, and urge all citizens to recognize this fine group for their
<br />accomplishments.
<br />
