Askins <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney read - AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A MEMBER TO THE <br />CITYOF LA PORTE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION; PROVIDING A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE HEREOF. APPOINTING HAROLD LAWLER AS THE DISTRICT 4 <br />REPRESENTATIVE. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Counciloerson Gay to approve ordinance 97-2181 as read by the <br />Assistant City Attorney. Seconded by Council person Porter. CONSI.DER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN ORDINANCE <br />VACATING, ABANDONING ANi> CLOSING THE STREET IN BWCKS 1177 & 1178, <br />AND CLOSING THE RIGHT OF WAY OF SOUTH 171'11 STREET, TOWN OF LA <br />PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY (Ord. 97-21.82) - G. Runkin <br /> <br />. . <br />City Engineer Doug Kneupper reviewed the summary and recommendation to consider <br />approval of an ordinance to close, vacate, and abandon the right-of-way of South 17th Street <br />between Blocks 1177 &1178, Town of La Porte. <br /> <br />Councilman Porter was concerned about the price of the property and the process the City uses <br />to derive at the price of property. Councilman Maxwell wanted c1aritication of the location of <br />the property. City Manager Robert T. Herrera stated that the procedure the City follows to <br />derive at the price of City property is ten years old and are reviewing the process of the <br />appraisals from Harris County. Councilman Gay commented that Harris County Appraisal <br />District would have to review at the City as a whole. <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney read - AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND <br />CLOSING A PORTION OF THE SOUTH 17TH STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY, TOWN OF <br />LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Council person Clarke to approve ordinance 97-2182 as read by the <br />Assistant City Attorney. Seconded by Councilperson Porter. The motion carried 8 ayes, 0 <br />nays. <br />
