<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />City Council Meeting Minutes Decemher 8, 1997 <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />LA PORTE, LA PORTE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT AND SAN <br />JACINTO COLLEGE DISTRICT (Ord. 97-2209) - K. Askins <br /> <br />Knox Askins presented summary and recommendation to City Council. Mr. <br />Askins advised Council the La Porte Independent School District requested the <br />City of La Porte consider conducting a joint election on the first Saturday of <br />May of the open City Council positions and board of trustee positions. Staff has <br />worked with the school district to determine the responsibilities of each entity. <br />Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager to execute an <br />agreement between the City of La Porte, La Porte Independent School District <br />and San Jacinto College District to conduct joint elections. <br /> <br />In addition, Mr. Askins answered Council questions. <br /> <br />City Attorney Knox Askins read: AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND <br />AUTHORIZING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT FOR JOINT <br />ELECTIONS, AMONG THE CITY OF LA PORTE, LA PORTE <br />INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND SAN JACINTO COLLEGE <br />DISTRICT; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING <br />TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Gay to approve the Ordinance as read by <br />City Attorney. Second by Councilperson Engelken. The motion carried, 9 <br />ayes, 0 nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, <br />Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />10. CONSIDER A WARDING FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLE BID TO <br />PHILPOTT FORD - J. Sease <br /> <br />Fire Chief Joe Sease presented summary and recommendation requesting .: <br />City Council to approve the award the bid to the low bidder, Philpott Ford in <br />the amount of $26,797.00. <br /> <br />Mr. Sease addressed Council questions. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Ebow to approve awarding the bid to <br />Philpott Ford. Second by Councilperson McLaughlin. The motion carried, 9 <br />ayes, 0 nays. <br />
